Bluefire Poker Affiliate Program

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Been a bit since my last post as I have been extremely busy lately. One of the things I have been busy with the last couple weeks is helping my friends over at BluefirePoker.com build their Affiliate Program.

A little background on Bluefire:
BluefirePoker.com is a leading Poker Training Video site. Headed by their main pro Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond, Bluefire has established themselves as the best Poker Training site in the world. Phil Galfond is known best for his 2008 WSOP bracelet and for crushing the highest nose bleed games in the world. He has won MILLIONS online at FullTilt under the screen name OMGClayAiken. Don’t let his screename full you, the guy is a killer at the tables.

The guys over at Bluefire asked me to help them build an Affiliate Program for them, and being that I am an Affiliate Program Consultant, it was an easy decision. These guys are great, and REALLY care about their affiliate program. No other Poker Training site has a well rounded affiliate program, if they even have one at all. Bluefire came out of the box with a commitment to Affiliates and a strong understanding of their value.

Make sure you give the guys at Bluefire and their Affiliate Program a shot, you will not be disappointed.

College Vs. Entreprenuership

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

There is a great thread running at PAL with the same title. I started writing a response, then thought it would be better to move my rant over here.

Jeremy and I have had this conversation many times before. We differ slightly in opinion, but I do agree with his points. Here are my thoughts.

I got a degree in Business Management and am extremely happy and proud of it. I would not change it at all. I was an entrepreneur all throughout college, so I guess I differ as I had a great experience doing both at the same time.

I grew up a lot in college in terms of my overall understanding of business and what it takes. I learned many things that I use daily. I learned a bunch of useless shit as well though.

I differ a bit being on the operations side, but in my mind, affiliating is one of the few sectors under the entrepreneurial umbrella that a college degree is basically useless. But going with a more 10,000 view of what it is to be an entrepreneur, I think that my degree is extremely helpful.

The goal is to create your own business right? Well having the right ideas for a new product for example, does not mean success. There is a lot more that you have to know behind the scenes in order to run or even create a successful business.

I think if done right, a college education replaces the void of experience. If you give your daughter $100,000 to start a business, the odds of her pissing a way the money on a failed venture is just as high as her pissing it away on a useless college education, probably even higher. There are so many useless Majors, that it is far to easy to do this now a days.

There is a lot of money in what we do, but what worries me is the uncertainty of the future of affiliating. It has only been around for 10 years, so who can predict what it will be like in another 10. IMO the key is to keep this in mind and have an exit strategy. If you found out tomorrow that everything came crashing down in our industry, or even if there is a major shakeup in affiliating in general, what would you do? How would you manage?

My goal is to always know what the next step could be if shit truly hit the fan.

Ill try to dig deeper into this another time. There are a lot of points in here that I feel stronhly about that I would be happy to discuss further.

Affiliate Manager Tip – Contacting Affiliates

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Since I have been working as a Affiliate Program Consultant, I figured I would dive into a hot topic. How to contact an Affiliate. This is directed towards Affiliate Managers of course.

When contacting Affiliates, its best to KISS (that’s Keep It Simple Stupid in case you have been living under a rock for ever). You never want to be to pushy, and never want to seem uneducated. Its important to remember that you won’t land them as an affiliate with your first contact email, but you can DEFINITELY lose them.

Keep in mind these emails are unsolicited. This is why when I am sending the first email out to a possible Affiliate I will make a statement like “Hope you don’t mind the email” or “Sorry for the disturbance”.

I always make sure to get the point across and put the ball in their court. I don’t talk about what type of deals I can give them, and I don’t lay out all that my Affiliate Program has to offer. I would rather talk to them personally and explain my program to them on Skype or over the phone. This way I can A. Sell my product and show how much I truly believe in it, and B. Answer any questions they have. (more…)

Kentucky Online Poker Casino Domain Name Seizure

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Most of you now know, Kentucky is in the middle of seizing online poker and online gambling domains from many of the top companies in the gaming industry. It all started on Tuesday Septenber 23rd, when it was releasted that a court in Kentucky ordered the seizure of 141 poker and gambling domain names (list below).

Since then, a couple of smaller casinos have handed over their domains in fear of prosecution. Golden Casino handed over their domain, and Playshare emailed their affiliates warning that they might have to change their domain. ClubUSACasino also changed their domain.

I spoke to a couple of employees from the bigger sites on the list, their overall feel was if a state court can ever get a multinational company to give up their domain, then hell must have frozen over. I complete agree with this statement.

Today Kentucky announced that they were asking for these sites to shut down access to Kentucky users, not to shut down the sites all together. Why the hell try to take the domains then? Its sad that its so easy to see through their bullshit, yet they get away with it. Two words sum up the reasoning for all of this…Kentucky Derby.

“Our endgame is to block access within Kentucky,” Jennifer Brislin said. “But our mode to do that is to capture those domain names and, if need be — if that’s not an option that those users take — then we will at the end of the day shut down a site.”

Aced Affiliate Program

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Sorry for the delay between blog posts, I have been very busy getting the Aced Affiliate Program up and running. Its finally operational, and Aced Affiliates should be getting their welcome email sometime tonight. If you haven’t been to the Aced Affiliate site yet check it out: Poker Affiliate Program As you know I am not the Affiliate Consultant for Aced and am really happy about it.

Aced.com and ChanPoker players and affiliates

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

I am happy to announce that Aced has made a partial asset acquisition with ChanPoker.com, and
will be the new home for all ChanPoker players and Affiliates. As a consultant for Aced, this was a deal I really wanted to get done, and am very happy that an agreement has now been inked. I think all ChanPoker players and affiliates will be very excited with Aced.

All information will be processed over EXCEPT player balances. As stated in my previous blog post, all player balances are SAFE, and are available for withdrawal at www.chanpoker.com/account. So all players will have their accounts transferred over exactly as is, except their real money balance. All Affiliates from Chanpoker will be transferred over as well, this includes their affiliate balances, and current players. So no affiliate will lose any players or balances. The Aced Affiliate Program will be up soon.

If anyone has any questions on the acquisition, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Aced Poker will be launched in the next coming days, as we finish up some last website projects.

ChanPoker Closes – Aced.com opens

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Many people have been asking me to update the blog with more information about the closing of

ChanPoker Logo

Chanpoker.com, and the opening of the new poker room Aced.com. I have been meaning to get to it, but have been moving the last couple days so was unable to. I am finally set up in my new place, so here we go.

As most already know, Chanpoker has been closed down. The reason for this must stay in house for right now, but let me clarify some of the situation. (more…)
