New Search Engine is not Cuil

After reading about the new search engine on PAP, I decided to take it for a spin. It was down.

So after an hour wait, I headed over to cuil.com and checked it out. Here was my first search.

http://www.cuil.com/search?q=chanpoker&sl=long

These rankings are terrible. First Chanpoker.net should have no weight whatsoever, and how could chanpoker.com/help be the highest ranking page from the .com site?

Not to mention the black woman with cleavage that shows up on chanpoker.com/promotions

So then I searched for my name, and I don’t even show up.

Trying to be the next google is like trying to be the next Jordan, Woods, or Jesus, it just isn’t going to happen.

Google is no longer a search engine, its the biggest name on the internet, and there is no room in the market for anything else (yes I am talking to you yahoo/msn)

I ended with “cuil will never be google” and got “No results because of high load…
Due to excessive load, our servers didn’t return results. Please try your search again.”

    While I agree with most of what you say, I do believe in a competitive market place and that eventually there will be another search engine that will compete with Google on a large scale. Recent trends where the new Google “knols” are outranking other established sites, show a weakness in Google and where there is a weakness there is a door opening for another.

    I completely agree and believe in a competitive market place as well, but I also believe in smart business. Now I am not sure if Cuil is trying to become the next google, or if its just some guy who built a search engine on his spare time, but I do know they are not ready for launch. There is no reason for them to not be able to handle the load, and their results are just terrible.

    Frankly I am upset that if someone searches for my company, we are represented the way we are (see above post). We work hard to create a brand, and I wouldn’t want someone searching for our name on Cuil and find this image to represent our poker room.

    If you are going to launch a search engine nowadays, you better have a ton of funding and launch with a ton more to your site then just a search engine.
