Mobile Gaming for Online Poker and Casino
One of the most talked about topics for online poker rooms and casinos has been mobile gaming. There have been multiple speeches and articles on the topic of mobile gaming, but really no results. Its never been a real focus for online poker rooms because the technology just isn’t there yet. I am shocked that online casino and sportbooks have not moved forward with this though.
For online poker rooms, its really hard to believe that poker players will spend hours at a time logged in via their mobile phone to get their fix. There are multiple reasons why it is just not feasible for poker players to utilize mobile gaming.
- Battery Life: Many of the phones that are capable of running a third party poker room, are known for their terrible battery lifes. Meaning on a full charge, you could only get an hour or so of play before your phone battery is dead.
-Speed: More phones are coming out with wifi enabled phones, which will benifit players looking to play poker on their phone, however if you are able to get wifi, you most likely would be able to have your laptop on you which is much smarter to play. If wifi is not available, you then have to worry about the slow cell network you are on, and of course the disconnect problem. Poker rooms have to keep in mind that if a player is playing slow because they are on their phone or disconnecting a lot, that is ruining the experience for their players at home on their desktops/laptops.
- Phone Selection: The phone that would be best to support online poker, would be the iPhone. Good luck trying to squeez that app by Apple though. Other then that, you are looking at the At&t tilt and like phones, which are not on the 3g network. Speed then becomes the factor.
-Most of your players that need to be able to play online poker on their phone are going to be your professional players and grinders. These guys are always looking to get hands in, however they always are looking for +ev situations. I just can’t imagine them being ok playing on their phone when they increase disconnections and can only play one table at a time. It just doesn’t seem worth the time.
There are poker rooms out there that have the software for their poker players to play via their phones, but I just can’t imagine they got a return on the time that was spent to develop the software. If you are looking to play on FullTilt, please go to Full Tilt Bonus Code and sign up.
Although I think online poker on a phone is many years away from being useful, I think a lot of online casinos and sportsbooks are dropping the ball by not having mobile gaming. Many people would love to spend 5 to 10 minutes while waiting for someone logging in a few black jack hands or a couple slot pulls. Not to mention looking over todays NFL games and lines looking for a game to bet on while at their local bar.
Mobile Gaming is a good idea in theory, but its just not ready yet in my opinion. What do you think? Leave a comment and give me your thoughts.
